Is your dog hyperactive or aggressive?

There are few studies on diet and behaviour problems in dogs - however studies in humans have shown that….

* Regular exercise increases the levels of endorphins in the body. These help improve mood and promote a feeling of well-being. Take your dog for a walk!

* Prinz et al (1978) found that there was a significant link between destructive, aggressive and restless behaviour and the amount of sugar children consume…..many commercial pet foods contain sugar, to improve palatability. Burns does not contain sugar.

* Feingold (1975) found that antioxidants BHA and BHT (normally stated on bags of dog and cat food as 'EU or EEC permitted antioxidants or preservatives') contributed to learning difficulties and hyperactivity in humans. Burns is preserved naturally with Vitamin E and Rosemary Oil.

* The Asthma and Allergy Research Centre on the Isle of Wight looked at the effects of food additives and colourings and behaviour. In children significant changes in behaviour were seen when the additives (E102, E110,E122, E124 and E211) were removed from the diet for as little as 2 weeks. Does your pet food contain brightly coloured pieces?!

* According to the BSAVA (British Small Animal Veterinary Association) Manual of Companion Animal Nutrition and Feeding: ' Some breeders believe that the inclusion of large amounts of additional protein in a puppy diet will aid the development of good condition and muscle. Unfortunately, this is not the case and protein which is consumed in excess of requirement is, rather, metabolised to produce energy or stored as fat.'
